The widespread support of Polish institutions for the chemical safety and security program in Ukraine

Government agencies, private companies and civil society organizations have all confirmed their support and participation in the development and implementation of the Integrated Chemical Safety and Security Program in Ukraine (integrated program), coordinated by ICCSS. This is the main conclusion of a seminar organized on October 2 at the Office of Technical Inspection by ICCSS in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Mazovia ICT Cluster. The seminar brought together representatives from key public and private institutions, like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance (Customs) as well as the representatives of companies, research centres, universities, NGO's and media. Among those present were Amb. Vaidotas Verba - the head of the OSCE in Kiev, as well as Mr. Oleh Kazanischev – 1st Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.

During the seminar the most important issues concerning the implementation of the ICSSP assumptions and cooperation with Ukraine partners were discussed. President of ICCSS - amb. Krzysztof Paturej and ICCSS director for Eco-Safety and International Cooperation, Andrzej Jagusiewicz, PhD., presented concrete activities for improving chemical safety and security in Ukraine and implementing the integrated program.

Interest of the OSCE and the European Union in joining the program implementation was also confirmed.

During the G7 Global Partnership meeting in Berlin (30.09-01.10.2015) ICCSS presented 4 projects within the framework of the Integrated Program, which included: analysis of the current chemical safety and security situation in Ukraine (project carried out thanks to Italian grant), a training program for Ukrainian cadres dealing with the transit of chemicals, a program - local awareness and responsibility in chemical safety and security and a program on implementation of the resolution 1540 (2004) of the UN Security Council.

Amb. Verba pointed to the importance of the program for improving the security of Ukraine and the region. He thanked ICCSS for the coordination of the program and reaffirmed the support of the OSCE and help in finding sources of financing for the endeavour.

Representatives of public institutions and industry presented their potential and prospects for participation in the implementation of the integrated program in Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting the Chairman of the Seminar, Andrzej Jagusiewicz PhD., presented the conclusions of the meeting, in which - alongside the participants’ support for the implementation of the program – it was agreed to conduct regular meetings devoted to the status of the integrated safety and security program in Ukraine.
