CHEMICAL THREAT IS AS A LEADING SECURITY CHALLENGE FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL STRUCTURES

Today, many countries are at the nexus of transnational terrorist threats, science and technology capacity building, and WMD-usable materials and expertise, including in the chemical area. As we move increasingly into the area of chemical safety and security in this changing landscape, ICCSS offer its assistance to national and international structures, including United Nations to shift its agenda from chemical weapons destruction or proliferation to a post-chemical weapon phase with a focus on chemical safety and security. Chemical security should be a vehicle which will allow the international structures to assist countries to reduce chemical threat and increase international cooperation.

CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF A CHEMICAL SAFETY AND SECURITY CULTURE

Acknowledging that safety measures and security measures have in common the aim of protecting human life and health and the environment, we affirm support for a coherent and synergistic development, implementation and management of chemical safety and security culture, including through bilateral and multilateral cooperation. ICCSS assists all stakeholders, including the government, regulatory bodies, industry, academia, nongovernmental organizations and the media, to commit to enhancing chemical safety and security culture and to maintain robust communication and coordination of activities.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE GLOBAL MARKET FOR CHEMICAL SAFETY AND SECURITY

According to the International Council of Chemical Associations about 20 million people around the globe have a job connected to the chemical industry directly and indirectly. The world chemical industry had an estimated turnover value of over 3 trillion dollars and is expanding. The chemical industry is the foundation upon which all other industries are built. It is present in every nation in the world,  whether in operating plants, distribution routes or consumer use of end products.

There is a growing global demand for modern technologies, equipment as well as adequate administrative and legal solutions for chemical safety and security and environmental protection, safe disposal of a growing volumes of toxic substances and wastes, protection of chemical facilities, storage and transportation of energy sources. Providers of technology and chemical compounds more and more often ensure that their customers are provided with state-of-the-art chemical safety and security solutions, which leads to minimising the risk of breakdowns and costs reductions.

Therefore, ICCSS invites cooperation to develop profitable services and products in chem-bio safety and security and industrial cybersecurity.

CHEM-FRIENDLY IN CHEMICAL SAFETY AND SECURITY – BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN CHEMICAL SAFETY AND SECURITY AT GRASS-ROOT LEVEL

Development, production use and disposal of toxic chemicals are under a growing scrutiny of all relevant stakeholders, with a growing interest from consumers. Today Internet, social media and communication platforms are full of information on toxic values of chemicals.

CHEM-FRIENDLY in chemical safety and security creates individual, societal and business responsibility, not through the increase in standards, norms or certificates, but through knowledge sharing, best practices exchanges, cooperation and trainings. CHEM-FRIENDLY acknowledgment supports the development of global chemical safety and security culture, since it promotes the implementation of relevant national and international chemical safety and security measures and the Chemss2016 Declaration. Through CHEM-FRIENDLY acknowledgment consumers will be able to identify the company and confirm the company’s credibility in the area of safety and security. This builds a positive image of the company and takes into account the consumer needs and thus increases the customer’s confidence. Through CHEM-FRIENDLY acknowledgment the partners have increase confidence that they operate on the similar level of safety and security. This facilitates access to customers globally.
