During a recent visit to Amman on the occasion of a set of ICCSS activities to enhance chemical safety and security and civil protection in Jordan and the Middle East, Amb. Krzysztof Paturej was received on 7th November, 2022 by HE Mazin Abdellah Hilal Al Farrayeh, Minister of Interior of Jordan. The meeting was also attended by HE Lucjan Karpinski, Ambassador of Poland in Jordan.
During the meeting ICCSS President informed on ongoing successful cooperation with the Jordan partners to enhance chemical safety and security in Jordan and development of Jordan as regional hub for chemical safety and security. He presented in these regards the vision of the regional centre for chemical safety and security ChemReg, opened by the ICCSS on the same day. He informed on expanding cooperation with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to improve chemical safety and security. He further informed on beginning of cooperation with the Jordan partners on trainings and exercises on European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
HE Mazin Abdellah Hilal Al Farrayeh expressed high assessment and support for cooperation of Jordan partners with the ICCSS initiated in 2016. He highlighted the importance of ICCSS chemical safety and security expertise and its efforts to assist Jordan and the region. He informed about the activities to cope with the consequences of the chemical accident at Aqaba Port on 27th June, 2022. This included the development of draft chemical safety and security legislation and administrative structures which place Ministry of Interior as a central governing organ for all chemical activities. He invited ICCSS to assist in this process. He expressed interest in developing cooperation on Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). It was agreed to expand the Jordan and ICCSS cooperation on chemical safety and security and civil protection, including on UCPM, and consider a cooperation agreement in these areas.
