ICCSS participated in the Science Fair in Geneva

The ICCSS participated with the Chemss2016 display in a 2-day Science Fair organized in conjunction with the biannual Conference of Parties (COPs) to the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions, which has a joint Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, on 7-9 May, 2015.

The conference and Science Fair were held at the Centre International des Conferences Geneve and attracted some 2,000 participants, most of them States Parties delegates and representatives of a variety of United Nations and other international agencies.

The ICCSS was provided a unique opportunity to address, upon the invitation of the Delegations, the meetings of the regional groups to COPs.  At the meeting of the plenary session of the Basel Convention on 9 May, Ambassador Krzysztof Paturej, ICCSS President of the Board, addressed the ICCSS international programs to enhance chemical and ecological safety and security.  He stressed that in the process of strengthening the international system of control of chemicals we have to embrace both chemical safety and chemical security.  He also informed and invited the Delegations to join the preparations and participate in the first Global Summit and Fair Chemical Safety and Security, which will take place in Kielce, Poland from 18 to 20 April 2016 (www.chemss2016.org).

The participants of the biannual Conference of Parties expressed strong interest and support for the ICCSS programs.  The information and invitation to chemss2016 was reflected in the work of the COP’s.
