The ICCSS in cooperation with CRDF recently hosted a series of training sessions and workshops in order to promote chemical security culture in Indonesia.
At the beginning of the training the host presented the goals and work of the International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security. The role of ICCSS as an International forum was underlined as well as its unique approach to non-political promotion of chemical security within the framework of CBRN security. The role of ICCSS as a partner in security issues to international organizations and governments was also presented.
One of the main roles of the training was creation of the awareness to chemical security culture. Other topics such as: corporate social responsibility, technical supervision, classifying hazardous substances and labelling, SOCMA approach to vulnerability assessment were presented to explain concept of vulnerability.
The training was also rich in on-site exercises. During the site visit at PCC Rokita (www.pcc.eu ) chemical production site the trainee was presented with industrial site safety requirements. The general role of technical supervision in building security was presented on the example of Office of Technical Inspection
At the end of the training, all of the acquired knowledge was summarized in a table top exercise. The importance of such exercises was stressed.
The results of the training will be implemented in academic environment in Indonesia. For this reason, as a novelty, the tutors run a workshop on converting industry approach on vulnerability to the academic conditions. The workshop yielded a wealth of ideas and proposal which will be further developed.
