Through the involvement of various stakeholder groups and a wide range of promotional activities, the campaign aims to draw attention to achievements and challenges and related to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The ICCSS Campaign Key Activities and Messages initiated during the 5th Review Conference included:
- A thematic Exhibition: Preserving the Future of Chemical Weapons Prohibition Through Collaboration.
- Presentation and distribution of the publication: Preserving the Future of Chemical Weapons Prohibition Through Collaboration: A Roadmap for Success at the Chemical Weapons Convention 5th Review Conference and beyond," authored by Mr. Krzysztof Paturej;
- Series of side events to promote an active OPCW engagement with various stakeholders in addressing chemical and biological threats, support comprehensive CWC national implementation, promote consensus-building in the field of international security and chemical weapons prohibition, and .
The campaign will increase general public understanding of growing threats of chemical and biological weapons, enhance an involvement of all relevant stakeholders to reduce chemical and biological weapons. It will enhance steady convergence between chemical and biological prohibition regimes to respond to science developments and chem-bio convergence. It will encourage and support an active participation of the OPCW and its community to reduce CBRN, environmental and cyber threats. These issues and proposals how to build them in the CWC/OPCW are presented in detail in the publication of Mr. Krzysztof Paturej.
More information about the ICCSS input to enhance chemical weapons prohibition and re-invigorate work of the CWC/OPCW is available in ICCSS Newsletter (2/2023), which contains ICCSS vision for the OPCW future: towards a global agency to prevent re-emergence of Chemical and Biological Weapons and enhance chem-bio safety and security;
