During the G7 Global Partnership work under the Presidency of Japan, ICCSS presented its achievements in the last ten years, including activities, projects, and partnerships as a global leader in chemical and environmental safety and security and cybersecurity in civil protection. The ICCSS also demonstrated and sought more assistance and cooperation with Ukraine to reduce the dire consequences of Russia's military aggression. ICCSS and its international and Ukraine partners presented new project proposals to assist Ukraine people and local communities to enhance public security, reduce CBRN threats, and introduce robust protection against cyber threats.
Furthermore, ICCSS delivered a series of presentations and conducted discussions to promote the global community on chemical and environmental safety and security and cybersecurity in civil protection. It also presented achievements and further proposals to enhance regional chem-bio safety and security, including the development of the Middle East Chemical Safety and Security program, including the inauguration of Regional Centre for Chemical Safety and Security (ChemReg) in Amman, funded by France within G7GP. Additionally, the ICCSS conducted a series of exercises in Eastern Europe (with an emphasis on Moldova and Ukraine) within the EU-CHEM-REACT program, funded by the EU, to enhance preparedness and response against CBRN threats.
ICCSS offered in Tokyo national authorities and international organizations to enhance their resilience against cyber threats based on the unique program on cybersecurity and reliability for energy and chemical sectors developed by ICCSS and its Ukraine partners.
ICCSS, jointly with Ukraine government, academia and civil society partners submitted new program proposals on development of local responses on CBRN related threats in Ukraine and raising Cybersecurity Awareness, Responsibility and Competence among Users in Energy and CBRN critical infrastructure in Ukraine through Cyber Fortress Simulation trainings and exercises.
Through these projects Ukraine partners will join the international training and exercise activities and learning efforts in civil protection against CBRN threats and cybersecurity and information protection.
ICCSS remains committed to promoting efforts that are free from political considerations, multi-stakeholder and multi-discipline, and based on science. Its priorities for the Global Partnership in 2023 include increasing support to Ukraine to mitigate and reduce CBRN and cybersecurity threats, engaging the CBRN community to tackle climate change, and promoting CBRN threat reduction, public health, and civil protection beyond borders in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
