Chemss2016 in the Report of the 2015 Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention

The report of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal on the work of its twelfth meeting (Geneva, 4–15 May 2015) introduced a reference to the global summit and fair on chemical safety and security (www.chemss2016.org).

The report stated that: “one representative drew attention to a global summit and fair on chemical safety and security to be held in Kielce, Poland, from 18 to 20 April 2016. The summit and fair would be dedicated to promoting practical, measurable ways to enhance chemical safety and security at all levels, to fostering a global culture of chemical safety and security and to addressing issues relevant to environmental conventions”.

The participants of the 2015 Geneva Conference of Parties to the Base, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (COP’s) expressed much interest in the chemss2016. They supported the ICCSS approach which offers integrated approach to chemical safety and security and removes traditional political concepts and prejudices that have long hindered timely global and trans-boundary cooperation in chemical safety and security.
