On 30 November - 4 December 2015 International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security participated in the 20th Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, organized annually by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, Netherlands. This time, ICCSS conducted three side-events on following projects: Kenyan Program, Integrated Chemical Safety and Security Program in Ukraine( ICSSP) and Global Summit on Chemical Safety and Security.
On 30th November in Antarctica Room in World Forum side, ICCSS held a meeting on Outcomes of the Kenya Program on Chemical Safety and Security. The overall goal of the side event was to present the results of the first stage of the implementation of a unique program to introduce chemical safety and security in chemical activities in Kenya (Kenyan program), based on sustainability, continuity public-private partnership, multi-stakeholder approach, and modern management. Participants of this side-event had an opportunity to learn about the results of the first stage of the implementation of the Kenyan program, as well as planned activities and timeframe of the implementation of Working Package II.
The meeting was followed by another ICCSS side-event - Development and implementation of the Integrated Chemical Safety and Security Program (ICSSP) in Ukraine. It was meant to promote the role of the OPCW as a forum for cooperation and support for the CWC state-party in introducing effective measures to ensure peaceful uses of chemistry with emphasis on chemical security, and seek synergies with the international activities in these areas. The side event introduced the ICSSP leading stakeholders, preparatory work conducted so far and first projects approved. Special guests of this meeting were: amb. Vaidotas Verba - Head of the OSCE Project Coordination Unit in Kyiv and amb. Olexander Horin - Permanent Representative of Ukraine to OPCW.
1st of December brought our last side-event during this year's CPS. This time Antarctica Room gathered the guests interested in participating in Global Summit on Chemical Safety and Security. During this meeting, ICCSS presented the preparations for this first-ever global gathering dedicated to chemical safety and security which will take place in Kielce, Poland on 18-20 April, 2016. Among the topics of discussion were concept, objectives and idea of CHEMSS2016, media promotion and On-site Communication Activities that will be held during the Summit.
All of our side-events were accompanied by the Exhibition at WFCC Lobby to present the activities of the International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security (ICCSS) to enhance chemical safety and security internationally and to promote a global chemical safety and security culture.
