Dr. Syeda Sultana Razia is a Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She served as the Head of the department from September 2012- September 2014. She had her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, from BUET and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her expertise and research interests include distillation/separation processes, process safety, heat transfer enhancement, zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in textile and pharmaceutical industry etc. She has served as an expert in a number of policymaking, investigation and evaluation committees dealing with technological and safety issues of chemical industries formed by the Government of Bangladesh. She is involved in different activities of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and is a resource person to the National Authority of Chemical Weapon Convention, Armed Force Division, Bangladesh. She is also carrying out projects and activities sponsored by Chemical Security Program (CSP), US Department of States. She offers training and lectures on Chemical Safety and security at home and abroad. She has been involved in assessing the safety and environmental aspects of different chemical and process industries in Bangladesh. Currently, she is leading collaborations between BUET and Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Centre, Texas A & M University System, US.
